If you are a Bruce fan, then you know that on his European tour this summer, his shows have been running three-and-a-half hours plus, and that’s without a break. In fact, the Boss has been playing without an intermission since his Reunion Tour in 1999. We say Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have it right.
At Party on the Moon, we subscribe to non-stop play action and have been playing this way since we started in 2002. We were actually one of the first bands in the market to do non-stop shows, and now I see about 30% of bands operating this way.
Why is non-stop the way to go? It has to do with momentum and creating an experience. Playing non-stop elevates the energy level for us, and our audience. When you take a break you lose that momentum.
Look at it this way. Have you ever been engrossed in something you are creating? Then you know, time flies when you are focused and you feel more energized once you are done. That’s how we feel about playing music. We truly have more energy after we perform for three-hours+ straight.
And, if you take a break, you lose people. You’ve been there – you’re at an event, and are dancing and having the time of your life, until the band takes a 20-minute break. And then you find your ‘get up and go, got up and went.’ It’s clear our audience has more fun when the party keeps going. (We actually play overtime at 50% of our events these days.)
So, that’s why we play 100 songs nightly non-stop. We are looking out for the best interest of our client and the event. And, we found it makes us better artists, sets us apart and makes our parties rock.
