To reinvent means to make over completely, to make as if for the first time.

We all know that change is happening faster than ever before. The technology we buy today will be replaced by better technology tomorrow. From music to golf clubs to automobiles, we live in an exciting time for products and services.

Apple, Inc. is one company that comes to mind when I think of a company who continues to reinvent its products and its company. And, just think of The Beatles – they reinvented themselves on every album.

Many times, we reinvent ourselves out of need. The loss of a job forces us to learn new skills; a health problem causes us to adopt a new life style. The positive change that comes from reinvention gives us a renewed energy and in some cases a new lease on life.

This summer, I read the book “Eleven Rings” by Phil Jackson. The book is about how Phil Jackson reached two world championships with the NY Knicks as a player, and then coached The Chicago Bulls and the LA Lakers to nine world championships.

Each year, before the season, he would evaluate his players and staff, and reinvent his approach for the coming season.  He was constantly looking for new ways to unify and motivate the top players in the league. It’s a great read about leadership and the group process.

Reinvention is a primary focus for us at National Party Bands™. We challenge ourselves using today’s technology in sound and lighting, along with new songs, costumes, choreography, set structure and special effect to keep our shows fresh and exciting. Each week at rehearsal, I challenge myself to make the show one minute better. Many of our clients are repeat customers, and it’s our job to make sure the show gets better with each performance.

Regardless of the business we are in, we can make the choice to reinvent our work and our lives. If you could have it any way you wanted it, how would it be? If you could start anew, what would you do? If you were to do a make over, what would it look like? Start now!

Here’s to Reinvention!
