I have enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics. My favorite part is the stories behind the athletes. Most have spent their lives preparing for this moment. It is so inspiring to see the best of the best compete for the Gold. For every winner of an Olympic medal, there are many more who competed but did not win, and even more who did not make it to the Olympics.

The sportsmanship in the Olympics is also very special. You see athletes who lose congratulate those who win. One downhill skier had a crash and broke his ski. A coach from an opposing team took him a ski so he could finish the race. He finished in last place, but he finished.

These athletes are a reminder to all of us to find something we love to do, commit ourselves to do whatever it takes to be the best, never quit and finish the race.

Sometimes, the underdog wins the race and the favorite loses. Sometimes, the difference in winning and losing is a tenth of a second. Sometimes, you get a break. Sometimes, the old guy wins.

My Sensei tells us Quality! Quality! Quality! Details! Details! Details!

Marshal Arts is one of my Olympics as well as dad, bandleader, manager and husband. While I’ll never win a medal in any of these, the Olympics have inspired me to do better in everything I do.

We all have our own Olympics. I encourage you to do the best in all you do. While we may never stand on the podium and receive the Gold Medal, we can run the race that we have been put here to run.

Go USA!
