I  recently heard an interview given by Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Airlines. He struggled with academics in high school, and dropped out at the age of 15. Early in his career, he started a record company and signed the Punk Rock band The Sex Pistols. He has since created and acquired over 400 companies. He employs over 50,000 people and generates billions of dollars annually.

“A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts.” When asked what draws him to start a new company – his response, “The time to start a new business is when it’s badly run by others.”

While most of us may not start multiple companies this year, I encourage all of us to think bigger in 2015. What dreams do you have for your life that you may have put on hold? What parts of the world do you want to see? How would your life be if it could be any way at all? What would your perfect job look like?

“80% of your life is spent working, you want to have fun at home; why shouldn’t you have fun at work.” Branson says.

I personally feel we live in the greatest time ever. We have all the resources we need to create a life we can be excited about.

If you’re living your dream, how can you make it bigger this year? If you’re not living your dream, take the first step and create a vision in your mind of what your life looks like and take an action step towards that vision. Many people’s lives have become like 3-day old food in their refrigerator. It’s not exciting enough to eat, but not quite bad enough to throw out. Don’t be that person.

Here’s to raising the bar.
