The other day I was asked what seemed like a very simple question, “What do you like about being in Party on the Moon?”  Seems like a simple question, right?!

I’ve been asked variations of the same question many times in the last six years, and I have a few automatic, though often trite, replies.  I was about to say, “It’s great to make a living doing what you love.” But at the same time realized that I am sitting next to this guy under the gazebo-like cover of a swim-up poolside bar and am about 15 minutes away from my first swim in the Caribbean. So, I just held out my arms and gestured around at OUR surroundings, and said something like, “What’s not to like, right?”

While true, and appropriate to the situation, I immediately realized my answer was just as trite.

When I asked my new friend, “What brings you to Nassau?”  He replied, “I’m a corporate pilot.” He went on to tell me a short but awesomely interesting story about the incredible successes of his employer and how it allowed him to spend time in some of the world’s most exotic locations.

We had been to a few that he named, including; Maui, Cabo San Lucas, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. But, Monte Carlo, Buenos Aires & Paris?  Well, in my mind, I have voodoo dolls of Dennis (with his cell phone to his ear) and Ed (at his laptop) making sure we eventually get there.

But, I realize in hindsight that the most important thing for me is the travel experience as a whole. I savor the local foods, like the clam chowder on Nantucket Island. [Clam chowder is great all around the New England area, but it is spectacular in Nantucket.] Philly cheese-steaks are better in Philadelphia. Pizza is better in New York City.

And, while I’m on the travel experience and New York City – I must recommend a visit to the window displays at Macy’s on 34th & Broadway at Christmas. If you’re lucky, a little snow will fall while you stare in utter amazement, just like the eight-year-old kid standing next to you. I mention this one experience specifically because it was my first memorable experience with POTM. Of course later that same night Dennis took me to see “Chicago” ON BROADWAY WITH FRONT ROW CENTER SEATS! But, that’s another story for later!

I will be writing an occasional Party on the Moon “Travel Experience” blog here from time to time. So, stay tuned for that and more. – Jim Boling
